Do you love fixing things yourself? Talking to other people, it appears people tend to do DIY because they are either trying to save money, or they are not patient enough to wait for a skilled person to fit them in - or they may be fortunate enough to have skills to do the work themselves.
I have to say in my personal experience, most builders don't really ever finish their own houses, so that would reduce the amount of people doing DIY because they have the skills - it's usually the people without the skills that try. DIY stands for Do It Yourself and believe me, sometimes that's the last thing you want to do - be by yourself - attempting some DIY tasks!
It is always helpful to have someone else around, even if its to hold things level, pass you tools and keep something still. There are lots of ways of getting DIY advice, magazines, DIY advice leaflets in store and now the web has loads of free DIY advice available.
I have compiled a website of some of the things I have done, and also a friend of mine has written some good DIY pages on plumbing.
Fix It Yourself. Your DIY guide to fixing and repairing in and around the home. This DIY guide is written with the novice in mind, but if in doubt of your skills you should seek advice from a qualified person. Most of these things I have tackled myself over the years and have gained hands on experience in fixing things myself. I normally try to have a go at fixing something myself before I call in the professionals, but as soon as I realise I am out of my league - I call in the boys!
